A lovely, fully-restored, 90+-year old cottage with proximity to the best Mount Desert Island has to offer, this cottage and it’s working greenhouse have been familiar sites to area visitors for many years. Nestled between Eagle’s Craig Mountain, one of the beautiful hiking trails of Acadia National Park, and Otter Creek, part of Acadia’s Park Loop Road, the cottage offers many activities within short traveling distance.
Just a 15 minute walk through a wooded pathway near the cottage brings you to an inlet on the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and Acadia Park Loop Road. Otter Creek’s shoreline is rife with sea life, rocks, sand and seashells. No longer used as a fishing harbor, the “Creek” is a beautiful cove featured in many published scenic photos and paintings.
A five-minute walk up the road from the cottage will take you to the hiking trail markers for Acadia’s Day Mountain and Eagle’s Crag. Walk the paths created 60+ years ago so visitors could enjoy the awesome beauty of these wonderful mountains, and the vistas of the open ocean and outer islands.
South of Eden is also just 5 miles south of bustling downtown Bar Harbor, with great shopping, dining and entertainment. And in the other direction, just 3 miles, is Seal Harbor and the Seal Harbor sand beach. During the summer months, the local bus will pick you up right in front of the cottage and take you and your bicycles anywhere on Mount Desert Island.
The cottage features 3 bedrooms: one king, one queen bed, two twin beds, all on the 2nd floor, two bathrooms (a tub/shower on 2nd floor, shower only on 1st floor), full dining room, living room, den and kitchen. There is also a porch/sitting area. Recently restored with new appliances, fixtures, and furnishings, the original hardwood floors have been preserved, along with many elements of it’s 1930’s charm.
Amenities include dishwasher, washer/dryer, BBQ grill, cable TV, WIFI, linens, microwave, coffeemaker— everything needed for a full week’s housekeeping. There are AC units in the den, sun room, and upstairs king and queen bedrooms. Click here for more complete list of household items/amenities.
The property features a tended greenhouse, with beautiful annuals in bloom outside and vegetables growing inside. (Paul Richardson, son of Gerald, who built the cottage, still works in the greenhouse his father was devoted to.). Also, note for spring weeks the owner will be accessing the "boat house" on the property.
South of Eden is an ideal location for your Acadia vacation, in a comfortable, modernized cottage as much apart of the Island history as the mountains that surround it.
